The 2016 Honda Civic Concept has been revealed at the New York Auto Show. And, from what it seems, this is pretty much what you are going to be seeing for the 2016 model.
Honda promises that the 2016 Civic will be “flat out, the most dynamic, the most technologically advanced and the most refined and stylish Civic we’ve ever made,” according to John Mendel, American Honda’s executive vice president for automobiles. It will also be available in a sedan, coupe (as revealed), and hatchback.
Standard engines include a 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo four-cylinder paired to a six-speed manual transmission. Honda has not released power outputs for the engine. A CVT transmission will also be available. For performance fans, there will be a new Si and the Type-R.
Now let me get to the styling of the car… Honda is really going out on a limb here trying to capture the young crowd with their new look. The 16 year old in me says that it looks really stylish, cool, and fast. But then I pop back to my 30 year old self and realize that the car is rather hideous. I do like the lines on the side view, but that is about all I see that is okay. The rear end with the single, rectangular exhaust looks out of place. The excessive grill and angry headlights make the car seem mean, but don’t seem to fit the rest of the car. Overall, I think that Honda needed to do something with the rather boring look of the previous Civic, but I think they went a little too far. Let me know what you think about the new 2016 Honda Civic in the comments below.
