With updates to regulations and safety, it is very hard for manufacturers to lighten and shrink its cars. However, Mazda is still ensuring that the 2016 Miata MX-5 roadster will still be a lightweight. The 2016 MX-5 weights in at just 2,332 pounds.
The new MX-5 curb weight would be very close the first generation’s weight. The original Mazda Miata’s weight was around 2,210 pounds. That is only 122 pounds less than the new one. With 26 years of regulations between the two, I think that is a good result.
So, with little weight to push around, Mazda is keeping true to the Miata with using a 2.0-liter SkyActiv four cylinder. This little 2.0 liter engine produces 155 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque which is more than enough to have a bit of fun with. So are you glad that Mazda is keeping the Miata MX-5 true to it’s roots?
